Treemendous Paintings
‘Treespective’ Acrylic on Canvas 30″x40″

This is a biological process not of death but of preparing for it.

This white oak tree lives near Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. It has grown into itself triangulating its branches, very curious.

This tree lives on George Washington’s estate and is hundreds of years old.

This is not a painting but an assemblage. It is from my student days at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The idea was to make a mold for a plastic vacuum form sign: hence all the tiny holes. My Mother saved it, I am so glad. Everything was found around the sculpture yard, then shaped on a band saw.

‘Anxiety Walk’ Acrylic on Gesso Board 16″x20″
This is a CoVid painting. Discovering new woods and trails has been a source of joy and relief but still some days are uneasy. Sometimes I dream I am running in the woods, running away from something unknowable.

A very special tree

‘6297’
This Elm tree is on Highway 55 in North Minneapolis. I used to drive by it several times a day. It became a source of joy and beauty, an iconic sign for me, a friend. I began to take pictures of it in different seasons, then make paintings of it. It has the number ‘6297’ on a tag. Its branches curve so playfully, it has a lot of character- that ‘6297’.
