A Love Letter to Paper written on my Laptop
by C. R. Mason
Paper is: Earth, rock, and tree. Papyrus. Birchbark. Hemp. Manila, manila paper both lined and unlined, in stacks on a paper tray next to the wall mounted hand cranked pencil sharpener. Typewriter paper. Onion skin. Resume paper in linen. Drawing paper, newsprint, Bristol. Watercolor paper, watercolor paper with water marks, French watercolor paper. Notebooks, sketchbooks, journals bound by spirals of wire, or thread. Graph paper. Copy paper, plain white or pastel, or brightly colored in seasonal shades that say ‘look at me’. Photo paper (glossy, satin, matte, silver) secreted in boxes away from the light. Construction paper and colored papers holding fast what will soon be revealed by contrast. Paper says ‘what is not soon will be’.

Great Basin Bristlecone Pines are the oldest living trees.
